Greatly appreciated!

Thanks to our church administrator, Nancy Andrews, our organist, Gene Marie Callahan, and our minister, Kenneth Clarke who together produce and coordinate this effort.

Reverend Kenneth Clarke, Minister

Ken Clarke has served the Old First Church as its minister since 2009 having served churches in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont prior to being called to Bennington. He teaches at the college level and in a prior career practiced law in Vermont and Maine. He is a New England native, born in Providence, Rhode Island. He now lives in New Hampshire with his dog, Biscuit, and makes the frequent commute to Bennington solo—Biscuit does not like the car!

Gene Marie Callahan, our organist

Gene Marie will supply more.

Nancy Andrews, Church Administrator

Nancy Andrews has served many years as our church administrator and is responsible for the day to day operations of the church which entails more than anyone can possibly imagine! Nancy is a long-time Vermont resident living with her family in Bennington. Her dog, Molly, is a comforting presence in the church office.

Music

Choir

Our organist and choir director, Gene Marie Callahan, leads a choir of dedicated individuals with a single commonality: the love of singing in worship!

We rehearse on Sunday mornings at 9:45 a.m. September through June. During the summer months, instrumental and vocal soloists provide music during worship.

Interested singers of all ages, abilities, and voice categories are welcome to join the choir.

Christmas and Easter Traditions at Old First Church

Every Christmas Eve our music is enhanced with strings who join in on hymns and music with the choir.

In December, the Bennington Children's Chorus leads us in a Candlelight Service.

On Easter Sunday we are joined by brass players for hymns, service music, and music of celebration.

Monumental Music

The Old First Church “Monumental Music” concert series continues at the Barn, 1 Monument Circle, Old Bennington on Friday, April 19 at 7:00 PM with "April in Paris, Portugal, and Places Beyond” featuring music of the season for voice and piano.

Sunday School

Sunday school is offered weekly to the children of the congregation and the greater community before worship at the church. To match the needs of our current church population, our activities are geared toward children 6 and under. The goal of this fun and informal half hour is to get our little ones familiar with the Bible, Jesus, and His teachings. This program is free, and doesn’t require any sign-up or commitment—simply drop in if you’d like to join us!

Contact Amber Langford, aemc412@comcast.net, or the church office if you have any questions.
